Get Ready to Travel! REAL ID Deadline is May 7, 2025

Starting May 7, 2025, you’ll need a REAL ID-compliant travel document to board a domestic flight. To ensure you’re ready, check that your driver’s license or state ID meets the REAL ID standards. If not, visit your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or check your state’s website to update your ID before the deadline.

Why Does REAL ID Matter?

REAL ID is a federal security standard for driver’s licenses and ID cards, designed to enhance travel safety. Without a REAL ID-compliant license, you may be denied boarding on domestic flights or access to certain federal buildings.

How to Check if You’re Ready

  • Look for a star on the top right corner of your driver’s license or state ID. If you see it, you’re good to go!
  • Have a valid U.S. passport? You’re already covered—passports meet REAL ID requirements.
  • If you’re unsure, visit your state’s DMV website to check your status.

What You Need to Get a REAL ID

Each state’s requirements may vary, but in general, you’ll need to provide:
Full legal name
Date of birth
Social Security number
Two proofs of address of Principal Residence
Proof of lawful status

Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute!

While previous deadlines have been extended, there’s no guarantee this one will be. Avoid last-minute travel stress by getting your REAL ID before May 7, 2025.
